Women's Networking and Social Community
Lately, I have noticed that an increasingly large number of people with Social Media profiles are using hashtags to form the basis of their entire bio. When I decide to follow someone, the first place I look is their profile to determine if they are worthy of my attention.
Since I want to be associated with those who not only will enhance my visits to a site but also give value to those surrounding me, seeing a bio that has absolutely no credibility or substance and only a cluster of #hashtags tells me to move on.
Perhaps, since I have not done much Seo in the past few years, I am out of touch, I may not understand the relevance of bombarding my page with the descriptive hashtags. What has always been the rule for gaining a presence on the web in the past and is still the most important one in my opinion is to post content!
Many in Social Media are in various groups and twitter chats, so adding several hashtags in their profile is acceptable. It is also true that on Twitter, there are limited characters allowed so it does make it more challenging to post a full bio. This limitation as well as the fact that people are trying to gain visibility in too many places and don't provide quality content normally leads to a not so productive outcome.
Focus on a core group of places where you get the best results, utilize the tools that boost your Social media experiences and always remember that CONTENT is what will drive your best results long term! A profile whose content is simply a series of hashtags is spam and not going to gain a quality following.
