Uncovering the Anatomy of a Facebook Page

In case you are still hesitant about using Social Media to promote your business, let me tell you that it is not only here to stay but becoming a mainstream means to advertise. In fact, Pivot Conference notes that 87% of marketers plan to increase social media investments in the next 12 months.

What does that tell you?? If you are not utilizing Social Media by now, you are losing potential customers and revenue!! Now that you know this, there are some other facts you better know before wasting time and money in an effort to join the ranks.

Placing an ad, comments or content on Social Media Sites such as Twitter and Facebook are easy. What you perhaps don't know is that it is more of a science than that!

Last month, Vitrue,an Atlanta- based social media management company published a white paper called The Anatomy of a Facebook Post: StudyonPostPerformance by Type, Day of Week, and Time of Day.

What the report says is that Marketers are spending a lot of time and money trying to engage fans on Facebook. The report claims, that they need actionable information and insights to determine the most effective means to communicate with consumers on Facebook.

The problem is that measuring the response rate is not as easy as it is for direct mail. There is no exact science for measuring and monitoring social media to provide fans and followers an effective message and provide a return on investment.

Vitrue contracted a third party to analyze data with a focus on Facebook posts. They analyzed publisher posts made from May 1,2010- August 11, 2010 for more than 100 randomly selected streams or pages, representing 42.6 million Facebook fans (or 15,5% of total fans served) and 32,000 posts.

Photos trump video, and both trump text. Why is this? Because it is not so easy to create good video content. Also video is more time consuming for the viewer and more labor intensive for the creator
Friday is the best day to post . . . barely. Vitrue findings show that, "Overall, Friday gets the most attention per fan; with 64 percent more 'shares, likes and comments,'andSaturday comes in second, with 13 percent more." However, thereport claims, "Friday is only 7 percent more effective than Monday and 3 percent more than Tuesday and Thursday." Which means don't count on Sunday to create much action.

Post Early inthe Day- Vitrue recommends splitting the day into 2 twelvehour blocks calling them morning/afternoon and evening. They foundthat post on average made before lunchtime get 65% more action forall fans analyzed. Seeing that most fans check Facebook first thingover a morning cup of coffee, or before work, this makessense!

For simplicity's sake, the Vitrue report split the day into two12-hour blocks and called them morning/afternoon and evening. It's findings show that, on average, posts made before lunchtime get 65 percent more engagement for all fans analyzed. And since most people check Facebook first thing in the morning over a cup of coffee, or in the office before the day gets busy, this seems to make perfect sense.

Hi Diane!

Not sure I understand what you are referring to. Adding a shopping cart to your site is not something I can help you with. All sites are different and it would be hard to do a how to.

You are welcome. Sorry the words are jumbled but the powers of NIng are lousy. Every time I attempt to fix it ... I get more mess!
