Travel Somewhere NEW This Year!

Travel Somewhere NEW This Year

Okay so we all know about the talked about vacation spots such as Miami, Caribbean Islands, Las Vegas and of course beaches get all the rave! But have you ever thought about going somewhere totally off your radar? I mean somewhere you’d never envision as a vacation spot.

There are a few places that deliver charm and new adventure (if you’re into that sort of thing) and I guarantee you that at least one these places will satisfy your need to get away and spontaneously do something you’ve never done before.

First on the list – Blackwater, Missouri Blackwater is named for the Blackwater River that flows nearby. Rest assured the river itself is not black. It was named after a Native American word that means black water.

This place is an awesome getaway spot if you’re not into flashy lights and expensive shopping. You’ll enjoy the quaint little antique shops and community entertainment such as the West End Community Theatre. Plays are performed on a regular basis. The admission is cheap and you’ll get a blast of nostalgia being as the building used to be an old church and has been standing since 1905. Oh yes and did I mention treats and refreshments are free.

If you like wells, old fashion guest inns and beautiful scenery then this is the place for you. Perhaps you could visit the Chouteau Gardens or even go camping. Blackwater, Missouri has an inspiring historic tale and it shows.

Okay Next – Home of SarahPalin Alaska… No? Oh, come on! Everyone thinks about the cold and even though you’ve heard of folks vacationing there you probably couldn’t see yourself going.

But the view alone is breath taking. Beautiful glaciers, impressive mountain ranges, you name it. It’s a photographer’s treat. And if you’re into trying something new go kayaking and rafting or take hubby fishing.  It doesn’t stop there. You can go hiking, or take a cruise through the sparkling blue waters, specifically the Kenai Fjords.

There are all kinds of entertainment. If you like to be naughty every once in a while the night life is live and in full effect. There are a lot of local pubs/bars that have dance floors so boogie your butt off.

And one other really cool thing: There’s this little place called the Bear Tooth Theatre Pub & Grill. What’s so special about them? They show movies…and serve food to your table while you eat and watch the screen. Awesome.

Even if you’re not going to Alaska any time soon you have to admit there’s a lot more going on than you thought.

Okay I’ve got one more for ya Taiwan. Remember now, you’re supposed to be thinking something new! Everyone goes to the beach or visits Disney Land but very few of us can say that we personally know someone who has gone to Taiwan on a vacation.

Really, if you’re looking for a whole new feel when it comes to atmosphere then you’ve got to check “Taiwan’s Night Markets”. To get an idea of what they might be like Google the images. Surrounded by food and clothing vendors, little shops, bargain hunters and just… people – lots and lots of people - It’s like being in a whole ‘nother world. The best part about shopping in other states, countries, etc, is being able to bring home a bit of their culture.

There are also Beer Houses and Tea Houses so take your pick. (But here’s a tip, hunnies, foreign alcoholic beverages usually take some getting used to and can typically be a bit stronger - and then again some not so much…so yeah…)

Let’s see, if you’re still not impressed perhaps you’d like to go paragliding. It’s quite popular there if you’re brave enough to try that sort of thing and like the other two vacation places named you can come across some beautiful scenery. You could also go snorkeling or scuba diving as well as hiking and other activities.

If you’re not feeling any of these places then maybe you can think of something … different that is. It’s a New Year. Get out and challenge yourself to new & exciting adventures.

Your Turn: Can you think of any unusual or unpopular places you’d be willing to go?

You have stirred up those travel urges that I have been trying to suppress this past year! I suppose that I better start saving for my next adventure!
