With spring and summer planning going on as we speak, don’t forget if traveling with your dogs then make their trip safe and fabulous too! If you choose to leave them in the luxury of their own home, make certain you select a well-known reputable pet sitting service. Leaving home and the change of environment for a dog can add stress and confusion to them, here are a few tips to guide you on the best way to travel with your dogs and keep the entire family ecstatic!

 

1. Pet Identification-You never leave home without it, why should your pet? In the chance your pet gets lost or loose while on vacation having an updated dog collar with at least two phone numbers will ensure the fastest way they make there way back to you. As you know dogs with collars speak volumes for strangers that they may come across, “Help me, I have a family”

2. Food to Go- Pack an adequate amount of your fur kiddie’s favorite treats and 2 or 3 Ziploc baggies of food portioned out for meals. In occurrence you suffer delays; having these readily available will help maintain your pet’s feeding schedule. Feed them a lighter meal 3 hours before a car or plain ride to avoid upset stomach.

3. Water-subsequent to the food keep a bottle of water and travel bowl. BYOW do not allow your pet to drink water he/she is not used to it may trigger an upset tummy.

4. Protect Paws-Our pups walking on hot pavement for to long will be incredibly uncomfortable, and can cause irritation that most time is not visible. Keep with you a blanket for your pup to stand on, or a wet towel in a situation where zero shade is available.

5. Driving-Make sure air is circulating in car at all times and never leave pet unrestrained. Bring pet on a series of short car rides prior to vacation. Please by no means leave a pet alone in a car at anytime.

6. Plane-When traveling by plane, plan to visit your veterinarian before your trip. Certification of health must be provided no more than 10 days before travel. Rabies and vaccination certificates are also required. Ask them on the best advice for your pet’s travel to be stress free. Remember that each airline has its own variations on regulations and services and when making reservations for you also create the same for your pet.

7. Lodging-Look for pet friendly hotels, and I mean friendly! If you intend to leave your dog in hotel room alone, leave the do not disturb sign to prevent housekeeping from stressing pups out. Check with hotels for local doggie day cares where you’re pet can be cared for and take pleasure in vacation too. Be certain to check hotels pet rules before you settle on which hotel is suitable for your family.

8. Dogs Favorites-Bring dogs favorite blanket and toys; sense of comfort.

9. Packing-I know when I am packing to go away all three of my dogs will sense this and start acting anxious and panting. If you desire to travel with your pet take your time packing, and don’t run around the house with the distraught last minute packing.

10. Walk-Take your dog on a pleasant long walk previous to your voyage, and this with a modest scent of lavender may keep your dog calm and relaxed for a few hours, when you take a break take your dog for an additional walk.
