Women's Networking and Social Community
There are so many Social Media sites out there today that it can set your head spinning and detract you from "focusing". Does this sound familiar? To name a few sites you might be acquainted with, Twitter, Facebook, Linked In, and now Google Plus, it is almost impossible to network effectively and really keep up with the big 4!. Then, there are all the secondary sites that we add ourselves to in hoping that the more visible you are, the more chances you have to be noticed and gain business.
I used to join not only free sites but also a few paid ones that I thought would help me in Social Media. I have decided that to really do my business justice as well as allow myself to have a real live "personal life, that I had to narrow it down to those sites that gave me the most roi. Creating a profile on the Top 4 Social Media sites is a great way to gain visibility but can you work them all??
My feeling is that you have to select the top 2 or 3 that give you the most return and really focus in on them. What may work for one business may not necessarily give you the same results. Also, your perceived feelings about a particular site may affect the results that you receive.
Last year, I felt that Twitter was not going to really benefit Divacafe.com and I was just on there sporadically. Now, I have new respect for Twitter and find that it has helped us gain so much more visibility as our Twitter followers have skyrocketed from a measly 2500 earlier this year to over 25,000!
Twitter can also work very nicely with Facebook if you link the two up. I have the post that I make on Facebook show up on Twitter and the response has been great! So, Facebook and Twitter are the two primary Social Media sites that I use.
Over the next few months, really start evaluating which Social Media sites work best for you and start targeting them!
Does any of this sound familiar and what are the top 2 Social Media Sites that you use?

I am using both Facebook and Twitter. I have things set to automatically post. I think my issue is that my business has not grown enough for me to have or even create an online following. Since I make jewelry my first step has been to cultivate clients throught the craft fairs, getting my name out. Hopefully then I can use FB/TW to my advantage then.
Facebook, seems to be a problem for me, really can't seem to get that one going on a business perpective
Comment by Markella Clark on September 22, 2011 at 11:41pm This definitely sounds familiar to me!! Right now I'm only on Facebook for a major site but I am on so many secondary sites that half of them I probably haven't updated in like 3 months. I've been going back and forth about Twitter because I'm not too sure about the following I would have but I'm starting to think that it would be a good idea. I mean, it doesn't hurt to try right?

Comment by Marie Leslie on August 14, 2011 at 12:03pm There are definitely some pretty simple ways for you to better utilize LinkedIn, Dede. Updating the profile and revamping the page would help--and then finding some targeted groups to follow and occasionally post to or comment on would really help build your network there. You can also set up Twitter to post specific tweets to LinkedIn. I don't like all my tweets to go there, only the ones that are really specific to my business. I've pretty much got my Twitter & FB plans in place and spend a lot of time now teaching people there, so now I'm focusing on LinkedIn as I have some clients who really need to learn to utilize that better, which means I need to know it better.
Comment by Marie Leslie on August 13, 2011 at 6:48pm Twitter is just awesome and we are going to be talking a lot about Twitter both here and in our Weekly Twitter Chats #Tweetnight. We want to provide you with the information you need to help grow your business and do it in the most productive way!
Yes, you do have to stay engaged and have a pulse on what your readers and members need and want to hear about. I try to do that and thank you for your support. It is really all about YOU not ME :) If we remember that, we will all be successful.
Comment by Barbara Mascareno-Shaw on August 11, 2011 at 10:09am I find Twitter the best social media outlet to promote my blog and posts. You're so definitely right Dede that there are some sites out there that just waste your time. I wouldn't mind getting to see how Google+ works out. I do find sites like Diva Cafes and others that really focus on networking. I think the success of some of these sites is because the administrators are on top of things. Besides all the other social media, these type of sites are the best to find network contacts for your business or blog. In my case, my blog. Thanks Dede, I love reading your posts.
Comment by Liz Manny on August 10, 2011 at 8:04pm Oh my, you are like about 99% of us!! Let's be unique and "weed" out all the sites that are not giving you the roi you need to grow!! You don't have to delete yourself from them, just stop wasting time where you are not going to get a return on your investment. Meaning Time is Money and if you are losing time by being a part of a community or site that is netting you absolutely nothing or a paltry pittance, then just move on:)
It is so easy to get swept up in the "newest" site, app etc but it is a time waster as well as other things I am going to be writing about! That being said, I am not telling you to stop visiting us lol. We do appreciate you here:)
