We are a group of people that had to suffer in one way or another. Through our suffering we have been led down a path we didn't expect to go. Going down the path, we have learned we respond differently to our disability. Anger, depression, sadness and finally acceptance. When you reach the acceptance level, you begin to see the light and make a life. Here's hoping you all find a way to accept and move on to the joys in life......especially the littlest joys. Life is like a book, what chapter are you in?

Hi Monika:  I know where you're coming from because everytime I request help from the DVR however, I get the run around all the time.

I am a high functioning woman with Spina Bifida at the T10 level.  When I don't get help from them I try doing things on my own and have been sucessful on occasion. Right now I have information on classes I can take online and the website is www.ed2go.com.  TRy it if you can.

Hi Everyone! I'm new to Diva Cafe and new to the group I have arthritis in my back, knees and fingers plus carpal tunnel in both wrists and numbness in both hands from a number of falls I have taken over the years. I'm in my latter 50's, live in Michigan and used to work in Desktop Publishing, Typesetting and Graphic Design. Between the economy, my age and my hands not being what they used to be I am unemployable. I have been working for myself for the past few years as a crafter with a Web site and an Internet content writer, but the income keeps going down, down, down. I'm trying to get some help from the agencies, but we all know how that goes...we wait and wait and wait. SIGH! It's rough. My heart goes out to all of you and I feel like I shouldn't complain, but I am having to depend on my daughter and a friend financially or I would be homeless, so I understand where you're coming from on that, Monica. Life is tough right now. Thank you, Linda for creating this group and to all who have contributed. I have enjoyed your posts.

Hi :

I 'm a 54 year old women with Spina Bifida at the T10 level.  I have a very big beef with DVR and other social services for the disabled.

I'm very high function physically and mentally and I am feeling as though I am getting the run around from these organizations because of it.  I say this mainly because when I ask for information or suggestions on how to go about going back to work or finishing my education to do so I get nowhere.  So, I find myself working things out on my own.

My main problem right now is that I still live with my parents and I am looking for either an Independent Living Organization aparetment or Assisted Living  apartment and getting nowhere fast.

hello, 42 but feel over 60. a history of back problems, from track, diving, gymnastics, several car accidents, a work injury and just various mishaps of throwing it out...etc.

currently (and since oct. 14th, 08) i have had a bulged disc, pinching my siatic nerve...causing a numb foot (my right/drivers leg), with skin sensation loss up my calf, twitches, spasms, charlie horses and restless leg. a lot of pain and new health issues trying to compensate for the situation...such as arch, ankle, knee and hip problems.

i cannot work a job job, because i'm unable to sit or stand for any length of time...i never get enough sleep and have digestive troubles from the meds.

YET, I HAVE BEEN DENIED ASSISTANCE SEVERAL TIMES!!! i just filed again and am crossing my fingers.

i have a friend paying my rent or i would be homeless. i work on things i can do at home and that is pretty much...the computer. so, that is why i have come here!!!  to connect with people with similar interests, learn something new, a distraction to help cope, make friends, network...etc.!!!

i am a GENEALOGIST!!!  i research family trees. if you have any questions, please let me know. i love digging for clues, to find the next ancestor!!!

have a great weekend!!!

Hi everyone,  I join this group because I have mild hearing loss in both ears and also Learning disabilites.  I overcame a lot of things that teachers told me I would never do.  Living on my own, driving a car and etc...  employment  is hard. I am finding out that   a lot employers won't hire those  with disabilites,  so it makes it harder. I would love to work for the ADA. Be fair to all is the key.

This Heartfelt Welcome goes out to all the new members of Special Diva's. Would love to know how you all are doing and tell us a little bit about your disability. I am an amputee, right leg, below the knee. I have a prosthetic leg and am very lucky that I do well with it. How about you? Love you all, Linda

Thank you special Diva's! Thank you for all your wonderful stories. Erica is right, we are survivors. Some disabilities are not visible, but they are just as real as those that are physical. My best friend has been going through some serious troubles and she has started drinking a lot. During the day she is drinking 4 or 5 shots just to make it through the day. It is heartbreaking and frustrating at the same time. She is in a relationship that is emotionally abusive by a very controlling man. She is afraid to leave him. She has lost a lot of her self confidence and self respect. My heart goes out to her, all I can do is tell her how I feel about the situation and just be there for her. I want to grab her by the scruff of the neck and shake some sense into her.......but since I can't do that, I will pray for her and be there for her. Do any of you have stories you would like to share. It does help to talk about things. Love you all, Linda

HEY DIVAS!!!!!

I REALLY WANT TO SAY THANK YOU MS LINDA FOR CREATING THIS GROUP... I AM NOT DISABLED BUT I TOOK CARE OF A LADY WAS WHEEL-CHAIR BOUND FOR ABOUT A YEAR.. AND IN THAT YEAR THAT KNEW HER WHEN I WAS WORKING WITH THE COMPANY THAT WAS CARING FOR HER, WE GREW VERY CLOSE.SHE HAD MULTIPLE DISABILITIES BUT WITH THEM THAT REALLY DIDN'T STOP HER FROM LIVING HER LIFE..... AT ALL. AFTER I LEFT THE COMPANY I KNEW HER FOR TWO MORE YEARS AND LAST YEAR SHE PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY. I WAS VERY CRUSHED AND I FELT LIKE THAT WAS A PART OF ME THAT WENT AWAY. BUT EVERYDAY, I THINK ABOUT HER AND I ACTUALLY HEAR HER IN MY HEAD AND CAN HEAR HER LAUGH AND EVERYTHING. AND THAT REALLY MAKES ME FEEL ALOT BETTER.

ALL AND ALL TO MY POINT OF THIS STORY IS YOU GUYS ARE SURVIVORS AND YOU GUYS PULL THROUGH WHAT YOU GO THROUGH EVERYDAY.I REALLY LOOK UP TO PEOPLE WHO DON'T GIVE EXCUSES AND THEY KEEP GOING.SO I AM SAYING ....
THANK YOU!
