Comment by Karen Kennedy on January 25, 2012 at 11:39am Hi Group! I just started a non-profit in honor of my beautiful daughter, who was a member of DivaCafe before she passed away. I am hoping to give and receive helpful information on funding for businesses and non-profits. How is the new year going for everyone?

I will apologise before hand if this question has been asked and addressed on here. I just joined 3 minutes ago and have not had time to go through all the posts.
Are there any grants for business opportunities? What i mean by that is that my business Java Jump Off is a mlm opportunity via OrganoGold.

Comment by Janene Ackles on June 15, 2011 at 1:31am Hi Wren,
Unfortunately there is no one stop shop for grants. It is blind luck and a lot of research time (a lot). I would be cautious of the ones that promise tons a free money, that does not exist. Many grants will match you dollar for dollar. If you work with your local agricultural center they might have some information. In my area there is a group called ASAP and if you use one of their farmers for anything (maybe ingredients in a dog biscuit??) they will match you dollar for dollar on marketing expenses.
It will require hours of search time and tons of phone call to multiple agencies. Many will have no idea what you are talking about, some will be very helpful and direct you to other people.
I did find a grant that works for us, but it has taken months to find it. Now, I have to find a scientist that will work as a consultant before I can even begin to apply for the grant.
Non-profits and governmental sectors have the most access to grants and that type of information. These are the organizations I would contact first.
Good luck!
