Welcome to the group. I hope everyone chimes in to give you ideas. The first thing I would suggest is to join and organization and volunteer to take pictures for the meetings and events(if you can) That way, people can actually see your work. (I had a caterer give me her card, but we were at a party and she could have brought food, BUT she didn't. Am I going to use her for a caterer? No, cause I STILL dont know if she can cook!" So people HAVE to know that you take great photographs. And then go from there. I always tell everyone to start with your Chamber , or Rotary Club but my all time favorite is American Business Womens Association. Also you can take photos for your homeowners assoc or if in an apt, help start an apt newletter and you the photographer. Sometimes you have to creat a platform to showcase your talent. For the geneology aspect, start a club to get people who are interested in to meet on a quarterly basis and talk...you never know where that could lead you to an even more specific niche in the genealogy realm. Volunteerism has made my business grow like crazy and put me incontact with decision makers. The folks who sign the checks! :o)

Comment by World of Women (W.O.W.) Radio on February 8, 2011 at 10:04pm If you are a business owner and you are afraid of technology, you need to build a bridge and GET OVER IT! My friend it is nothing to be afraid of and is the best tool for getting your business out there!
The last 10 years has seen the biggest growth in the digital usage of email,blogs,texts... -VS- paper based media like newspapers, letters and books.
According to Newsweek, July 26, 2010
12,000 blogs in 2000 vs. 141 million in 2010
12 billion emails sent daily in 2000 vs. 247 billion in 2010
2.7 hours per week spent online in 2000 vs. 18hrs per week in 2010
400,000 text messages sent in 2000 vs. 175 billion in 2010
No fear clearly YOU are not scared of technology OR you would not be here on DivaCafe sharing your business to more than 6, 000 ladies. So get your DivaCafe, Tweet, FB, LinkedIn, your website, your emails, & your texts ON!!!
You really are on your way to the top! Be encouraged!!!

Specialize it! Don't say, I cook everything....don't say that! Say what your specialties are: Italian food? Seafood? Light appetizers? Low Carb, Gluten-free, Homestyle? Soulfood?
THEN:
Target demographics:
Single dad's
Health Restricted individuals
Local Celebs
Market yourself:
write articles for neighborhood newspapers, homeowner association newsletters, work newsletters, e-zines.)
Start a cooking club
Write a cookbook
Throw a cooking competition (you be one of the judges: choose food critics, farmers, local chefs as additional judges...make it an annual event some of the proceeds go to the local food bank)
Throw annual food eating contest
Do a cooking show video load up on Youtube
Whatever you do, make sure it is something you totally enjoy....the money will follow!
